Virtual Meetings

Posted on Mar 29 2020 - 6:10pm

As we continue through this social distancing and stay at home routine we as leaders in the troop have decided to move forward with virtual meetings.  We will be utilizing Google Meet through existing contracts that the Great Trail Council has in place.  We have built multiple virtual meetings room to enable a larger troop portion of the meeting as well as patrol level groups.  We have also set up a Board of Review virtual meeting for those who have discussed with Mr Kuppusamy and need this for advancement.  With summer camp still coming on the horizon, we also have created a meeting room to discuss merit badge options with the team running point on Summer Camp.

BSA announced they have entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. We understand there may be questions surrounding the announcement. Right now, we will direct you to the Great Trail Council website ( https://www.gtcbsa.org/ ) and the statement posted there. We'll relay information as it becomes available, but as the statement indicates, programs will continue and the local councils still function as before.

Scout Holiday Gift Ideas

Posted on Nov 25 2019 - 6:27pm

Some parents have asked about camping equipment, particularly around high adventure. Equipment makes a pretty good holiday gift for your scouts. I’ve attached a Philmont gear list and description. It does a pretty good job of explaining what you might look for when making selections. In general, the lighter and smaller it is, the better it is for backpacking (though more expensive). I’ve invested in gear over the years with my older boys and I still use it for myself and current scout. Also, if it says “Coleman” on it, it likely is heavy and won’t last long on the trail but may be suitable for “car camping.”
